The worst NFT traders of all time

Context

Yesterday Truth Labs announced Big Inc, an upcoming sequel to their Goblintown collection.

Details:

  • 15,000 supply

  • 1,000 NFTs will go to “the worst NFT traders” in the space

  • Truth Labs NFT holders can also claim for free

  • Price for public mint is 0.096 eth OR 50% off with $PEPE

  • Mint date TBD

Our Take

It’s May 25, 2022. Your friends are in town and they want to get the gang back together to watch the NBA playoffs. Your phone starts buzzing and you pick it up to deliver the bad news:

“Hey guys, I actually have to bail tonight, sorry.”

“What the hell Jeff, why?”

“There’s a Twitter space happening rn with hundreds of people listening to grown men moan like goblins. It’s extremely bullish…you wouldn’t understand.”

For those that weren’t there, I’m referring to the early Goblintown spaces after they minted.

Thankfully the evidence is still on Twitter for your listening pleasure, and will likely be studied by internet historians decades from now as a sign of the times.

Silly? Stupid? Maybe, but it worked. Within days, Goblintown became the most talked-about collection in NFTs, and went from a free mint to a high of about 8 eth.

The timing was perfect. NFTs were in a free-fall and Goblintown became a self-aware joke for all the downbad collectors out there.

Credit to Truth Labs, the team behind these shenanigans. They’re black belts in creating attention through social stunts and curated experiences, both online and offline.

It’s a superpower in NFTs and there aren’t many teams that understand that.

Now they’re launching Big Inc, the sequel to Goblintown. And they’re showing they still know how to get your attention.

Once again, the timing is perfect. It just so happens that NFTs are more downbad than previously thought possible.

And here they come offering a free WL to the 1,000 worst traders in the space. They literally have a Down Bad Board where you can check how worthless your trading skills are.

Naturally, it went viral (well viral on NFT twitter, which is slightly larger than your average high school).

The idea of people claiming their free mint and thus proving to everyone that they are, in fact, the biggest bagholders in the space, is hilarious.

One criticism though: They should be using Net Losses instead of Total Losses, which tends to favor whales with more trading volume. But we hear there are more scoring metrics coming that will make things fairer.

What about the supply? On the surface, 15,000 sounds like a lot.

But we count at least 10,000 free mints going to holders of existing Truth Labs collections, and that could even go up a bit more over time based on these requirements, plus an additional 1,000 for The Worst Traders.

So all in, the public mint would look something like ~1-4k NFTs priced at .096, or 50% off if you buy with $PEPE (a nice nod to The Current Thing). My guess is it’ll sell out quickly.

Of course, these are just the minting mechanics. We still don’t really know what Big inc actually is and where it goes from here. But it’s safe to say Truth Labs has some more tricks coming.

The Mint or Skip Genesis pass is coming soon.

You can register now to get it. All newsletter subs are on the WL!

It’s made for collectors who never want to miss another drop – what I wish I had when I was entering the NFT space.

NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.

Emergent Harmonies by Helena Sarin

Notable AI artist Helena Sarin is set to release new work on ClickCreate. Coldie has curated all of the platform's May editions, including this upcoming drop.

The 160-supply edition features a video of colorful abstract works. It mints today for 0.042 ETH for SubPass holders, and if supplies are still available, at 0.069 ETH for the public tomorrow.

Creature World CROWD – Chapter 2

Creature World is following up on their successful Crowd open edition launched in February with Chapter 2 starting today.

Phase 1 of this chapter starts at 7:00pm UTC. Crowd holders can burn one NFT to “evolve” another, creating a new trait. It’s unclear whether this will be a new NFT, or if it’s just a metadata update on the existing one.

Holders can participate in phases 2 and 3, which are scheduled for May 8th and 13th, regardless of whether they participate in the first phase.

Silent Noise, Episode 1 by Chen Man

Next week, LiveArt will host the launch of Silent Noise, the first NFT-based digital art collection by renowned visual artist and photographer Chen Man.

The work remixes one of the artist’s previous photoshoots with musician GRIMES to create dystopian works that fit current AI discourse. This first series will serve as an access pass to following episodes in the collection, with further incentives outlined for top holders.

The mint price for the 1,000-piece collection is currently set at $100 (0.055 ETH as of the time of writing).

Better Launch Next Time Reddit Avatars

Surprise!

Reddit has announced a small collection of avatars that will be claimable for free by users who experienced platform issues on the day of the Gen 3 launch, regardless of whether they were able to purchase an avatar.

Elegible users will be notified of the mint via Reddit DM on May 15th (can’t say I really approve of this method), with 4 avatar designs up for grabs. One claim per account.
