What's next for Mint or Skip

An Important Letter to our Beloved Readers

We minted, we skipped, we were mildly entertained.

It's our annual shareholder meeting.

This was Year 1 for Mint or Skip. In the last 9 months, we delivered over 3 million emails, reviewed 5,212 drops, and wrote 20,000 words on NFTs for some reason.

Before getting into next year’s plans, let’s take a minute to review how we got here:

We launched Mint or Skip in February 2023 with the silly idea of covering every interesting NFT drop we could find. Every single productized meme, from the most beautiful to the completely deranged, would be fair game as long as it was done in good faith.

The first email was sent near the lows of the crypto bear market when many participants had turned cynical. They rejected the false promises of the WAGMI era and overcorrected to the other side, dismissing the idea of digital property altogether, and reducing projects to their binary status as something that would either make or lose them money.

We chose not to join this downward spiral and doubled down on seeking the creativity that we knew was still there.

The idea was that if we focused more on creators that genuinely excited us, and less on highly speculative micro-rotations, that we would find a Terminally Online audience that resonated with our point of view.

And I think we managed that.

Honestly, that was our most important achievement. Being able to express our own taste, and not just follow whatever forced narratives the market was trying to push at any given time, gave us a platform that’s much more authentic, will lead to less burnout, and is creating a more aligned community.

Thanks for being with us through it all.

As a bonus…

Here are our Greatest Hits of 2023

Team Favorites

Making money as an NFT curator. Predicting the coming rise of the NFT curator class.

My favorite kind of NFT. Outlining our favorite onchain genre (because we’re all biased).

Who is buying this garbage? There were many rants against grifty corporate drops this year, but this might’ve been my favorite.

You’re wrong about that NFT. Breaking down why whales buy $1M NFTs even though they know they’ll lose money.

This made me laugh. Profiling diewiththemostlikes, maybe the weirdest breakout artist this year.

People’s Choice Awards (based on open rates)

Huge Fail. Where we explained what went wrong with Reddits big NFT drop.

Opensea token coming? What we know. Spoiler: it didn’t.

This is great news. The day Apple let NFT games into their app store.

The first of its kind. Explaining the (now abandoned?) AI pivot for Opepen.

NFTs are in free fall. Reflections during the absolute low point for NFTs.

What’s next?

Here’s what you can expect in 2024:

  • Brand new website experience

  • Rebrand into [redacted]

  • Collab drops (first one in early 2024)

  • More chains (thinking Solana or Avalanche next – lmk in replies)

  • Season 2 pass

  • [Redacted]

  • [Redacted]

Just a tease for now.

P.S. Stay tuned for our roundup of the best NFTs of the year coming very soon.

NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.

All Access Wristband by Zaid Kirdsey and Richerd

Digital artist Zaid Kirdsey (known for his colorful, anime-influenced works) teams up with Manifold co-founder and $9.5M punk sale rejecter Richerd for a mysterious wristband drop.

This limited edition item will be burned for a collaborative art piece later, the details of which are still under wraps.

One for those who like surprises.

Tome of Aurums: The Abstractia Arcanum by Kaeli VanFossen

California-based artist Kaeli VanFossen wraps up Mirage Gallery’s AI art drops this year with the 150-supply Tome of Aurums: The Abstractia Arcanum.

The collection catalogs the artist’s journey – one that has attracted notable collectors like Claire Silver and features various styles to fit many a taste.

MAN WITH AI MOVIE CAMERA by Dan Sickles

You better get your ADHD in check for these hour-long NFT films by director Dan Sickles.

MAN WITH AI MOVIE CAMERA might be one of the most unique drops I’ve seen recently. It features 480 generative AI films that are each 69 minutes long (nice) and are all pulled from a single prompt inspired by a 1929 Soviet silent film.

It’s definitely pushing the boundaries, and it’s definitely one you should not try explaining to grandma at the Christmas dinner table.
