Context
Artist diewiththemostlikes (DWTML) announced an upcoming drop on Nifty Gateway called Chub Packs.
How it works:
There are 364 packs containing 1 random NFT
Artworks come with diff rarities (supply will vary for each)
The art insta-reveals upon purchase
Price is $69.69 per pack, and they begin minting on September 12th.
Our take
Have you seen DWTMLâs art before?
Itâs hard to explain.
Maybe the best way is to start with his own Superrare artist bio:
diewiththemostlike is a fuckable energy drink floating in a retention pond outside of a strip mall in your hometown. Create nothing. Consume everything.
Or we can go with his description for this upcoming Chub Pack drop:
weâve painstakingly ground a fuck ton of animal parts and gas station sex pills into fully flavorless suppository paste. built to euthanize feeling or connection, filling holes for the sake of filling. randomized and piledrived so you donât have to think.
You are now peeking into the trippy consumerist funhouse that DWTML has created around himself.
First, you have the visual art itselfâŚ
Which often consists of grotesque drippy characters mixed with brand logos, memes and ironic catchphrases.
Theyâre surreal, theyâre satirical, theyâre what I imagine my brain would feel like after watching a 72-hour marathon of early days Adult Swim (without skipping any commercials).
This is almost as far away from âhang it on the wallâ art as you can get.
The opposite side of the spectrum from the many hoity-toity abstract generative art collections that we often highlight (not that we donât like those).
Heâs also prolific
Thereâs a group of artists who react to current events with imagery that becomes iconic of their own style, which lends well to going viral on social media over and over.
You have Beeple, you have Jack Butcher, and I think you could place DWTML in that category as well.
I donât know if he produces these new works daily, but it sure seems like it. Hardly a day goes by without seeing some melted body pop up on my timeline with various things going in and out of different orifices.
Then, you have his tweets
DWTML has turned himself into a walking ChatGPT filter that can translate any normal scenarios into a surreal string of deep-cut brand references and, again, mentions of various things going in and out of different orifices.
Youâve seen some examples above, but you really have to browse his feed to get the full scope of the underlying madness.
Even his appearance blends into the art
I donât think Iâve ever met anyone from Indiana (his home state) before, but this seems to be in line with what my mind conjures up. Much love Hoosiers.
All these elements come together to create an artist universe that is uniquely his. Not many creators build a cohesive vibe that spans different mediums including their own personal brand â itâs fun to watch.
Bottom line
DWTMLâs cult following is growing.
His most recent Superrare drop in June included two 1/1s that sold for 24 ETH combined, despite launching in one of the slowest markets in years.
Chub Packs will likely sell out quickly as well. Itâs the same art style that his collectors love, but now with the added dopamine hit of a speculative slot machine pull.
⨠Added to Watch List â¨
NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.
Axstone ICONS Theme Pack
Mobile app Floor unveils its 7th drop in the ICONS art program, featuring a $29.99 open edition from Turkish artist Selin ĂÄąnar, a.k.a. Axstone.
The piece showcases an assemblage of colorful characters similar to the artistâs previous 1/1 work.
Like previous ICONS, this mint will be available exclusively on the Floor app and includes a custom in-app theme for minters.
ORIGIN
This Thursday, Montrealâs Suburbs Gallery hosts ORIGIN, a Nifty Gateway drop celebrating its recent rebranding.
The drop will feature work from 11 artists, including Daniel Isles (a.k.a. Dirty Robot), creator of RENGA and a familiar name among PFP enthusiasts.
The artworks will be sold via auctions, limited editions and open editions.
I.o by Night Sea
Artist duo Night Sea will make its Art Blocks debut next week with the AB Presents collection l.o.
Itâs an audiovisual work inspired by modular synthesis and analog equipment, which matches ambient electronic music with visual patterns that look hand-drawn, with pleasing results.
This duo seems very new to NFTs given that their Twitter only has 42 followers, but they do have an existing track record on certain music sites.
