Video NFTs are getting crazy

O Dearly Beloved, I woke up this morning feeling compelled to remind you that it’s very easy to be 99% ahead of the world when it comes to AI art.

Especially with AI video, where all it takes is learning about a handful of creators, spending some hours observing their works, maybe buying a piece or two (they tend to be pretty affordable), and you too will be getting invitations to teach AI curation at Oxford soon enough.

I’m being facetious, but only a little

There truly is a shortage of people paying attention to this stuff, especially given that we all know this is on the precipice of completely taking over the internet and much of our lives.

Perhaps nowhere else will you find a starker mismatch between short-term interest and mid-term potential, which as always creates the perfect conditions for a unique opportunity.

AI Video NFTs weren't even really a thing when we started this newsletter a year ago (it began to pick up with Post Photographic Perspectives II in the summer). But since then they’ve squeezed multiple Eons worth of evolution into a span of about 6-9 months.

So what’s the best way to dive in?

You could start with Daily.xyz, the ongoing daily video auctions presented by FellowshipAI, which is probably the leading AI art gallery today outside of Braindrops.

Many of these auctions often sell in the 0.03-0.2 ETH range, and will quickly get you up to speed on the different styles being embraced in these early innings.

We covered this series long ago, but it’s worth checking in because the scene continues to level up. All you need to do is look at today’s Niceaunties and Pancakepie360 auction compared with the very first set of shows by Fellowship back in July to see the difference.

Nowadays you’ll find smoother frame rates, more moving pieces, and the ability to simply hold an image steady without constant morphing or micro-hallucinations every second, which feels like a big tech shift from the earlier disjointed slide-show aesthetic.

Some of that comes down to artistic choice, but the models themselves are definitely improving. It’s like watching painters master a new craft while also receiving the latest Paintbrush 10 X Pro Max every few months.

Here are some other personal favorites from the series:

The Norman Conquest by Historic_Crypto

A narrated fake history channel that gives us an amazing glimpse of the audiovisual storytelling that a single creator can now do.

Blue Swan by Roope Rainisto

This one is slightly older (as in…from September, which might as well be the 1800s). Roope leans hard into those frame morphs, and here it really works to create an almost mystical dance sequence. Sound on.

REDHEADS by Mind Wank

Chosen because this might be the catnip that finally drives furries into NFTs.

I’d add more but we’re running up against max email file sizes.

NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.

Dendrites by steganon

Generative art depicts AI models as neural networks in the 200-supply Dendrites, a dynamic and colorful collection on the Optimism L2 by steganon, a previous Art Blocks Curated artist.

Its serene and trippy visuals easily pass my wall test (provided you have a digital display).

BAD GLITCHES ONLY

Lovers of aesthetic technological spams might want to look out for this 10-artist drop from one of the most prolific galleries in the NFT space, Superchief.

Art connoisseurs might already know these emerging artists from other platforms and certainly will know of the subjects depicted in these 11 pieces, as each takes its inspiration from another crypto artist, some quite prominent.

Doltab by Irvin Kwok

@irvinkwok

For those longing for simpler times when buying pictures of rocks was enough to make you feel whole without the need for staking, bridging, and 80-page whitepapers, Irvin Kwok’s upcoming 550-supply generative collection might hit the spot.

Granted, there’s more to Doltab than just an unbridled love for colorful geology. Kwok is an emerging artist active since mid-2022 who has been building a solid collector base on Foundation, and this is his first ever generative work.

NFT mfers and rocks. Name a better duo.
