This NFT legend is back (but is it too late?)

Context

Blitmaps is back.

A rare discord announcement revealed that The Logos, their upcoming PFP collection, is almost here and that a snapshot will happen later this week:

The Logos is a free claim of 3,200 NFTs that come with three designs: Pixel, 2D and 3D model.

Our take

A bit of lore: When we first started Mint or Skip and put together our initial Mint List, Logos was one of the first drops that made our shortlist.

Why?

Well, first off there’s a lot to like from a collectible standpoint:

• Clean and cohesive aesthetic 

• Crisp media assets and physical comics

• Blitmaps are true evangelists of onchain culture and CC0

• And, they’re free :)

But most of all, we liked Logos because we like Dom, the founder/creator behind Blitmaps.

During the 2021-2022 cycle, Dom was one of the most captivating alchemists in NFTs.

First, he made Blitmaps – an onchain sci-fi adventure that at some point had a floor over 20 ETH.

Then, a few months later he helped make Nouns – the first fully onchain NFT DAO that has since earned over $100 million from their daily mints.

And then, literally weeks after Nouns launched, Dom dropped Loot – the onchain community MMO that took the space by storm and ushered us into a loot-meta late in the 2021 bull.

There were more people following Dom’s wallet at some point than perhaps anyone else on earth.

But then he just…cooled off? Pivoted? Got bored?

All we know is that his activity slowed dramatically. His Twitter feed makes it sound like he’s working on a social app of sorts, which would make sense given his first claim to fame was building and then selling the streaming app Vine.

However, it’s not clear what this means for The Logos.

The collection was originally supposed to launch in early 2023 and has been quietly (and repeatedly) delayed until its most recent expected date in October. It also got hit with a supply cut along the way.

And now it receives its most meaningful update in a while, but it comes through a dry vanilla discord announcement. Even the text sounds like a breakup of sorts (“This is a courtesy notice…”).

So, I don’t know.

Dom is either…

1. Slowly distancing himself from the NFT meta like many other creators and simply fulfilling what he originally promised (and maybe nothing more) or…

2. The entire ecosystem will embark on a new adventure that connects to whatever app he’s working on.

Full disclosure I own some Blitnauts (down bad) and wasn’t filled with enthusiasm reading the announcement.

Forever, Heart You by Heart You

Today, pseudonymous artist Heart You is releasing a collection of 122 poems titled Forever, Heart You.

Collaborating with esteemed development studio Transient Labs, the drop will showcase one of their newest features, Story Inscriptions.

These allow the artist and the collectors to add onchain comments and context to the NFTs, opening the door for richer narrative experiences. Perhaps a growing trend?

EigenWorlds

All we have is a website and a countdown. Ethereum restaking protocol EigenLayer is back with Worlds, a mysterious mint today at 12 PM ET.

This comes after they introduced an increase in some of their staking caps yesterday. Now speculators are taking to the markets, trading the previous open edition more than 1,000 times in the last 24 hours.

If today’s drop is free (like the last one) or priced low enough, it might be worth taking a punt on one of Ethereum’s most relevant protocols.

Dimensions by Jisu

Today at 3 PM ET, digital art gallery ClickCreate is dropping Dimensions, its third August edition curated by funghibull.

This 140-piece edition from Korean-American artist Jisu features their signature anime style.

SubPass holders will get preferential mint access.

Momentum by Rik Oostenbroek

Red Bull’s Velocity Pass (originally covered here) has been one of the best-performing August mints, currently sitting at almost 3x its minting price with 550+ ETH in all-time volume.

The main reason for this is the pass’s strong artist lineup, which features Dutch creator Rik Oostenbroek. He’ll be first artist dropping with Momentum, a 200-supply digital art collection launching tomorrow at 10 AM ET.
