The newest PFP on Bitcoin (my thoughts)

Context

Popular artist ALFIE announced an upcoming Bitcoin collection called Everyday Satoshis.

This was teased all the way back in September (we covered it here).

But now we know that it’ll be a collection of 5,586 pixel PFPs with ties to an upcoming token, although we’re still missing the price and mint date.

Our take

Everyday Satoshis have a certain aura to them that screams “NFT”.

I don’t know what to call it, but one glance is enough to know that there are likely thousands of other similar looking figures lurking somewhere in the metaverse.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, given that they’re being sold to people who collect NFTs and the whole point here is to celebrate crypto history, but it is something that’s hard to unsee.

Specifically, we have a collection of 5,586 “memetic artifacts”, which is code for images of familiar crypto characters and memes (a recurring theme in Alfie’s work).

So think, Jack Butcher:

But also, Adam Sandler? Sure.

Each image doubles as a patterned canvas containing 5,586 numbers that represent Bitcoin’s daily high price for each day between the genesis block and the upcoming halving. That’s 15 years in total, which means Alfie has a good amount of history to draw from.

I can see some people finding this gimmicky, but I do enjoy the checkered look.

And then there’s a token. Because it’s 2024 and that’s what you do.

They’re promising that each inscription will be “first in line” for $CLTR, a utility token dedicated to an upcoming art marketplace they’re building (likely on Bitcoin).

Apparently, they have 12 full-time people working on this and raised an angel round a few months ago.

Bottom line

I remember Alfie having some huge sales on Ethereum, including this open edition that sold for almost 350 ETH and this 1/1 that sold for 69 ETH.

But this is the first time they’re stepping into the long-term utility space, which historically has been a graveyard for most collections.

Hard to know what to think before seeing more details on this marketplace, but for now…

Halving Homecoming

We’re in the final stretch of pre-halving drops, and Gamma.io has taken this urgency to heart announcing a new mint for tomorrow.

This four-piece, multi-genre open edition includes Ordinals debuts from four artists you may already know from other platforms: Axstone, Dave Van Patten, Giulio Aprin, and tiffatronn.

For the dopamine junkies, if you collect all four artists you get a free art piece by experienced Bitcoin artist Sir Gadfly airdropped to you.

Manufactured by Lemonhaze

Mexico-based pseudonymous artist Lemonhaze will make their debut on the Singular art platform tomorrow with the colorful Manufactured.

Generative art with a side of meta commentary, the collection questions how art is valued as a commodity while it is released as one in the same market.
