New Reddit NFL drop coming TODAY

Reddit announced a new limited-edition avatar drop with the NFL, set to launch at some point today (September 6).

What we know

  • Supply: 16,000 (32 teams * 500 NFTs per team)

  • Price: TBD

  • Where: the in-app Reddit shop

  • When: exact time still TBD

What people are saying

Many of the replies in the thread were negative.

But surprisingly, it wasn’t NFT haters that were upset, or even NFL fans, it was Reddit avatar collectors.

Some of the complaints:

  • This should be free

  • Corporate deals are ruining the community

  • They’re diluting the market

Our take

Reddit spent the last 12 months ramping up wallet adoption across its platform.

Now, thanks to free NFTs and other marketing campaigns, they’re sitting at 18 million avatar holders – making it easily the largest ecosystem in the space.

The next phase was always going to include selling into that base with recognizable IP. And it doesn’t get much bigger than the NFL.

IMO the complaints sound like classic Redditor-whining from people who are sour because the number isn’t going up on existing avatars. In reality, selling NFL avatars to sports fans will have zero effect on the market around their indie artist collectibles.

Will people buy?

We’ll see. I’m hoping these are priced at $10, or $20 at most. But looking at the recent 500 supply Formula 1 avatar drop it could be as high as $25.

Either way, these drops won’t move the needle for the ecosystem as a whole until Reddit delivers a better shopping experience, ideally with an in-app secondary market.

Yuga wants you to like puzzles

Context

Yuga Labs announced a series of puzzles on Bitcoin inspired by their Twelvefold art collection that they launched earlier this year.

They’ll release one small puzzle every week for 12 weeks, with the winner of each puzzle receiving a prize of 0.12 BTC (~$3,080).

On the 13th week, there will be a final grand puzzle, with the grand prize being a Twelvefold NFT (current floor of 0.85 BTC, or ~$21,800).

Puzzle #1 has already been completed.

More info on how to find the puzzles and submit answers here.

Our take

The 12 people in NFTs who love puzzles will be ecstatic hearing this announcement.

They’ll be joined by the usual suspect sharks that go around chasing edge-case play-to-earn opportunities.

Over time, the odds that prizes are won by increasingly larger DAOs, as opposed to clever individuals, will approach 100%.

Ok, I sound jaded. But it’s because I’ve learned that free-for-all crypto puzzles with real money prizes get the fun squeezed out of them pretty quickly by organized groups who take an almost militant approach to solving them.

HOWEVER – if you’re the kind of person who loves joining such groups and out-sweating your competitors, then this series should be right up your alley.

Before you do, make sure you’re prepared to fill out those hefty tax forms.

NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.

Digital Disobedience

NFT art platform ClickCreate experiences glitches this month with the release of Digital Disobedience, their set of weekly September drops curated by artist Patrick Amadon, renowned in the genre.

The roster includes seasoned creators, featuring apocalypse art / Letsglitchit / Empress Trash / neurocolor / Tipi, with apocalypse art being up first today.

As usual with ClickCreate drops, SubPass holders should get first dibs on these.

Moona Lisa by Nick Walker

An Ethereum NFT inspired by a 2006 graffiti piece satirizing a classic Renaissance painting from the 1500s. What would da Vinci think?

This Thursday, NFT platform ElmonX is set to release two digital collectibles from British artist Nick Walker that are based on his 2006 piece Moona Lisa, which originally sold for £54,000.

Holders of the ElmonX Mona Lisa release will get first dibs. For everyone else, the public mint is set for Saturday. More details here.

Embracing Imagination

Foundation’s curation efforts continue as they team up with pseudonymous curator spAce and his platform Space World to launch Embracing Imagination, a Moments release celebrating creativity.

While mint details haven’t been outlined yet, the collaboration makes a lot of sense. Space World’s original Foundation World is one of the best performing ever, with 105 artists, 307 collectors and 122 ETH worth of sales since its inception in 2023.

G-SHOCK CREATOR PASS

The list of legacy brands dropping on Polygon is officially too big to keep track of, as now we have Casio making its mark with the VIRTUAL G-SHOCK.

The project’s website emphasizes community and access to new experiences, kicking off with the G-SHOCK CREATOR PASS, a 15,000 supply free SBT (untradeable).

A 3D model G-SHOCK NFT is scheduled for a separate sale in December, but details are scant.

Although Polygon brand loyalty programs are almost a dime a dozen these days, it’s hard to hate on a freebie.
