The hardest decision we’ve faced

O Dearly Beloved, who is Yung Cicero?

I am nothing but the sum of all choices made throughout my long and virtuous life.

Trust that my character has been tested plenty of times:

Goku vs Vegeta

Pokemon Red vs Pokemon Blue

Team Edward vs Team Jacob

These are serious matters for serious people. And now – without a moment of relief – we thrust into a new battle:

“On-chain” vs “Onchain”

This needs to be settled yesterday. Crypto Twitter has become a powder keg ready to blow, people are viciously fudding each other’s bags, Vitalik is threatening to become an AI influencer. It’s gone on for far too long.

Luckily the folks at PartyDAO decided it was time to raise the stakes to finally determine the one true king.

And so yesterday they announced: Party vs Party. They’re calling it a generational spelling debate for the ages.

Party vs Party

This is an on-chain art battle made by a team that primarily builds tools for group NFT purchases.

And I think it’s really cool. Here’s how it works:

  1. Both on-chain and onchain get their own collection with 100 membership NFTs. Collectors can mint either for 0.03 ETH, thus choosing a team.

  2. The money from each mint goes into a prize pool.

  3. Everyone joins a private discord for their party.

  4. People start scheming. Their goal: create a piece of art.

  5. The parties show off their art. Each piece becomes an open edition.

  6. Open editions go live for 72 hours, priced at 0.01 ETH.

  7. The winning team gets all the ETH (minus 20% for charity).

They announced this yesterday (right after we sent out our newsletter, of course) and ended up minting the first stage on the same day.

Party membership will remain open until 12 PM ET Saturday (tomorrow) and can still be joined by buying a membership pass here or here.

Then the art begins.

This is the kind of weird home-brew experiment that makes it worth sticking around during the bear market.

  • it’s multiplayer

  • there’s a prize pool

  • it has a clear end date

  • no ongoing promises of utility

  • it’s fun to watch

What’s not to like?

As for which team I’m on: I’ve written it both ways before – but if I had to plant a flag it’s pretty clear that onchain is more of a vibe.

Unless I guess you’re the kind of person who still writes it as “E-mail”. In which case you likely have some deeper rooted problems that need to get addressed.

✨ Added to Watch List ✨

NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.

Yamabushi's Horizons by Richard Nadler

German artist Richard Nadler, known for mixing his passion for Japanese culture with generative and AI algorithms, is dropping his next AI collection Yamabushi's Horizons on Verse.

The work depicts serene Japanese mountain landscapes filled with vivid colors and distinctive brushwork, which appears woven into the digital canvas. One for the more enlightened type of weeb, some might say.

Most Accidents Happen at Home by Jonas Lund

Wildxyz’s distinguished curatorial board has chosen Most Accidents Happen at Home by Swedish artist Jonas Lund as the platform’s first Signature collection (akin to Art Blocks’s Curated series, if you may).

These 3D artworks present familiar household items arranged in seemingly impossible vertical stacks, but with a twist…

Whenever the artist (or his family) drop an object at home, an onchain event triggers and topples one of the stacks, showing off the artist’s background in interactive work.

An intriguing and unconventional choice for Wild's debut Signature.

Avant Arte x Cozomo de' Medici

Omnipresent curator Cozomo de’ Medici and physical-focused art platform Avant Arte have partnered for a series of 7 artist releases starting in late July.

And boy this looks kinda hot. We can see some collector favorites in the roster that they’ve already unveiled here and here, which includes:

William Mapan, Ripcache, Alpha Centauri Kid, Jake Fried, and Monica Rizzolli. Plus two more artists likely revealing today.

The works feature physicals tied to NFTs, think Fall by Grant Yun (a Watch List pick of ours which ended up selling out earlier this week). Some more of these may be coming to a Mint or Skip list near you.

Wildxyz Season 2

A second Wildxyz mention on the list today, as they’ve recently revealed their Season 2 roster.

The 31 artists, some of whom you might already know, will each release a collection on the experiential art platform during the coming months.

As always, I’ll keep a look out for future announcements and let you know my favorites.
