Who comes up with these prices?
Context
Fewocious announced mint details for his highly anticipated Fewoworld drop.
Here’s what we know:
Free claim for Paint holders
Having more than 10 Paint lets you claim more Fewos
0.125 ETH mint price for Fewocious art holders
0.4 ETH* public price
20,000 total supply
If you’re impatient, you can get a free Fewo claim by buying a Paint from OS for 0.25 ETH.
*Price for the public sale can change depending on how many Fewos are claimed in the presale. More info here.
Our take
It all began here:
A 19-year-old raising $19 million for a mysterious upcoming NFT drop.
Nothing about that makes sense, of course, but this is what the bull run looked like.
Funny enough the market ended up crashing about a month later, so it was one of the last huge drops that squeezed through before the punch ran out.
Now, 17 months later, we’re finally arriving at the mint.
And the best I can say…is that Fewoworld is hobbling across the finish line.
First off, to be clear: I like this project
I did a full feature on it months ago. Here are the key reasons why:
The art
I’m a fan of the trippy child-like aesthetics drenched in color, and the early sneak peeks for Fewoworld keep getting better in my view.
I understand it’s not for everyone, but there’s a reason Fewocious is one of the most successful crypto artists of all time.
The storytelling
Fewocious has done a great job worldbuilding around his art over the past year. From the Tim Burton-esque video trailers to the highly expressive project website.
It’s also translating into the NFTs themselves, which are split into three species.
The tech
Fewoworld is one of the first major projects to use the cutting-edge ERC-6551 standard (covered here).
Every Fewo comes with a backpack that can be filled with wearable NFTs released over time.
When someone decides to sell a Fewo, they’ll also be bundling anything held in that Fewo’s backpack.
It’s a very cool direction that I think will show up more in drops going forward.
HOWEVER, there are also some major challenges
There’s the personal drama
Earlier this year Fewocious was involved in a scandal that, if true, will have huge negative consequences on his life and career.
This has yet to be resolved, but brands like Adidas have already canceled collabs with Fewo just in case.
Then, there’s the market
If you haven’t noticed, PFPs are out of vogue at the moment. And yet here they’re selling 20,000 of them – but to who exactly?
This leads me to the biggest issue: price and supply
Fewocious is using an interesting mint structure where PRICE and SUPPLY are two dials that can be turned up or down during the public mint, depending on how many NFTs get sold in the presale.
For example, imagine a scenario where fewer-than-expected NFTs are claimed early on. In this case, the supply dial is turned up at the public sale (you need to sell more of that 20k), but in response they’ll bring the price dial down. Vice versa in the opposite scenario.
And, I did the math. There’s a very reasonable scenario where 10,000 NFTs are claimed/sold at presale, which would mean that the public sale would consist of another 10,000 NFTs priced at 0.24 ETH.
But you can already claim a Fewo by buying Paint for 0.25 ETH on Opensea today – and it’s only getting a handful of sales per day.
So, Dear Reader, where would these additional 10,000 sales (roughly $4 million) come from?
NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.
Courtyard.io Stress Test
Courtyard.io is back with a third Pokemon card drop at a whopping 90% discount compared to the previous ones, which they hope will break the site.
The rules remain unchanged: Each pack contains one random card from the collection, which you can trade unrevealed for the first 24 hours, and every NFT is backed 1:1 by a physical vaulted card, redeemable at any time.
Can’t beat the price and I’m expecting a rather fast sell-out, so I’ve…

Nibiru by Sui Jianguo
On their quest to pop every traditional artist’s NFT cherry, Pace Gallery has now partnered with Chinese contemporary sculptor Sui Jianguo, historied artist and professor at China’s most renowned art academy.
The collaboration involves not only a month-long Hong Kong exhibition but also Nibiru, Jianguo’s space-themed NFT debut, a digital continuation of a 2017 Pace exhibition that promises a custom app for multimedia engagement.
One for the gallery frequenter.
MareBears
The biggest RSTLSS drop yet, featuring unlikely collaborators Paris Hilton and Gremplin, now has an official name: MareBears. We originally covered this a couple of months ago under its then codename PocketMonsters.
While we still don’t know the full details, we can expect a continued focus around digital wearables.
It’d be foolish of me to fade a crypto-native company that recently collaborated with web2 giants like Epic Games and Blizzard, so I’ve…
