Classic MMO goes Web3

Ragnarok: Monster World - Nyang Kit

  • Mint Date: 5/28

  • Supply: 250,000

  • Price: 1 $RON (equal to ~$3 at the time of writing)

  • Chain: Ronin

  • Link

Picture this: It’s 2004 and you’re sleeping over at the house of your only friend with a gaming PC, the blaring sound of Linkin Park’s Faint occasionally interrupted by MSN Messenger notifications.

As boredom momentarily sets in, your friend opens up this strange fantasy game…

Ragnarok Online, a Korean MMO that was big before World of Warcraft. It died a couple of years ago, but not before spawning offshoots that still operate today.

Now, the IP is launching on the Ronin network (the Axie Infinity chain) with Ragnarok: Monster World (a.k.a. Ragmon).

We’ve yet to see gameplay, but according to its whitepaper it’s supposed to be a card-based strategy game.

In terms of tokens, the roadmap mentions the classics: a PFP, a coin, and (you guessed it) land.

Their genesis mint, the Nyang Kits, will provide access to what comes next for the project, including the PFP, and are priced between 1 and 1,000 $RON ($3 to $3,000).

It reminds me of MapleStory, another early 2000’s Korean game IP gone web3. Although the fanbase for Ragnarok is substantially smaller, they still have a shot at hooking an audience here.

Couple this with an accessible $3 price and my unbridled nostalgia, and I’ve got no choice but to…

NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.

Still Life by Vinnie Hager

Another Ordinals debut from a popular Ethereum artist is coming with Vinnie Hager’s Still Life.

While the title is self-explanatory, the featured inanimate objects are drenched in the artist’s recognizable doodled style, best known from his 2021 Letters collection. But this time he’s made them grittier via hand-drawing.

There aren’t a lot of art drops on ordinals recently, but I reckon there’s still an audience for this.

Mondoir Friends

One of web3’s most prominent collectors, Mondoir (a.k.a. Amir Soleymani), is launching an access pass, Mondoir Friends.

2021 NFT mfers should be familiar with his personal collection given some of the outrageous auctions he won back then, like this 120 ETH Time magazine NFT.

Mondoir Friends will provide VIP access to events and experiences (note the man owns an actual Mondoir gallery in Dubai).

I’m unenthused by the overwhelming 10k supply given the tumbleweeds rolling around the NFT art space right now, and the art on the pass doesn’t inspire confidence. But future details could make up for that.
