The BAYC artist has a new drop (it’s a trip)

Context

AllSeeingSeneca, the artist best known for designing the Bored Ape collection, announced that her new series Perils of Sēsē will be minting at the end of the month.

Here’s what we know:

  1. It’s a hand-drawn generative art series

  2. Using a new Transient Labs token standard (more below)

  3. Total supply = 2880 evolving artworks

  4. Price = TBD

  5. Mint date = This month

This is Seneca’s largest drop to date and comes after her Shermie collection released with Proof earlier this year.

Our take

Step into the world that Seneca is building

Look into the hand-crafted visuals that seem straight out of an old book of European folk tales.

Listen to the narrator introduce Peril’s three main characters like the beginning of a dark Walt Disney film laced with acid (or more acid than usual).

Enjoy the dreamlike atmospheric music looping endlessly on the official website

Peaceful, ominous, familiar.

If nothing else, Seneca knows how to set the mood.

The mint is just the beginning

Each NFT comes with its own trajectory that evolves and blooms over time, and holders can choose their fate as the story unfolds across three chapters.

Perils uses a new standard from Transient Labs (ERC-7160) that will let you cycle between multiple artworks, meaning you can choose your favorite variation from each timeline.

The longer you hold, the more the art changes.

The story is also steeped in psychoanalytic

Seneca refers to the three characters literally as Id, Ego, and Super-Ego, while the word Sēsē means “oneself” in Latin.

So expect a good deal of introspection and Freudian easter eggs along the way.

But the exact details of the lore, or the choices, or the end goal, are still a mystery.

Bottom line

O Dearly Beloved, we need more storytelling NFTs – done right.

I’m not talking about incredibly convoluted fiction wrapped in tedious puzzles and to-do lists, which is what most of these projects seem to devolve into.

I mean moody audio-visual combinations, memorable set pieces, tasteful worldbuilding, all leading into a small set of desirable artifacts.

This is the direction Perils seems to aspire towards, and it’s showing all the right things so far.

Still waiting on final pricing, but I’m keeping a close (third) eye on this one.

6529 Meme Card #167 – die with the most likes

6529’s Meme Cards embrace the meats with an upcoming release by the beef master himself, one of the most influential artists this year, die with the most likes.

A fitting way for the artist to close the year, seeing as he started 2023 with a few 6529 parody pieces. Now he’ll be making an official release on the platform. Something something life is like a box of chocolates jerky.

As usual, the release follows the 6529 allowlist model determined by collector holdings. Snapshot already taken.

Adorable Flux by FAR

FAR, the lead artist for the hyped upcoming Ordinals collection Taproot Wizards, has just announced Adorable Flux, his first solo art release in a long while.

The news coincides with the Wizards’ announcement of a $7.5M seed round (impeccable timing, intended or not).

This one is a 33-supply edition releasing as a digital print on Gamma.io. It features a piece of dynamic, onchain, fluorescent, generative art (try saying that really fast) that changes with each Bitcoin block… I do like the sound of that.

Infiltration

Only once in a blue moon do we get NFT marketplaces dropping official collections, which makes this upcoming LooksRare release an interesting one to follow.

Details are still scant, but a couple of posts from team members indicate that the project will be an onchain PVP game with big prizes.

It’s not the first time that LooksRare will experiment with onchain prize games, so I’m hoping they make use of their experience to make this an engaging narrative.

Izanami Islands by Richard Nadler

Four months ago, German artist Richard Nadler mixed generative and AI algorithms to create the Japan-inspired Yamabushi's Horizons. The collection was an instant hit and is currently third on Verse’s all-time volume ranking.

Now Nadler is dropping a spiritual sequel, Izanami Islands. Focusing on seascapes, the 128-supply collection showcases the familiar, colorful, threaded style that attracted collectors to Yamabushi.

We still lack pricing details, but this is a follow-up to one of the most beloved collections to ever release on Verse, so I’ve…
