AI Art Season is heating up

There’s a brief moment in time, O Dearest Acolyte, when you’re inside the eye of the storm, and you begin to mistake the surrounding calmness for a return to normality.

But actually, this is just a temporary respite, a quick moment to catch your breath before being thrust back into the madness.

For the luddites who maintain a strange animosity toward AI art, these first couple of weeks in 2024 must have felt like things were starting to come back around.

Much of the recent attention in digital art and collectibles had been trending toward projects presumably made by the human hand alone (or so they say), while AI had seemed to cool off a bit.

However, I am once again here to inform you that, despite the detours, our irrevocable one-way trip into the robot age is back on course (we appreciate your patience).

Today I’m covering a doubleheader from two of the leading crypto AI artists in the space: Claire Silver and Pindar Van Arman.

corpo | real by Claire Silver

  • Mint date: January 31st

  • Supply: 500

  • Price: 1 ETH

Claire Silver is in the middle of her digital fashion arc. First with Pixelgeist, which she dropped last year with RSTLSS, and now with this latest Braindrops release.

Braindrops calls this collection “a philosophical exploration of our coming reality” which deals with ideas around transhumanism and corporeal bodies in the age of AI.

It’s split into 10 visually diverse categories, making this almost a grouping of sub-collections tied around a single concept.

I’m enjoying the sneak peeks so far, much more than Pixelgeist, which already feels outdated even though it came out just 8 months ago.

In contrast, here we’re now approaching near-flawless photorealism: heavy sci-fi elements with bright Tron-like neon strips and galactic stardust textures, but still tethered to modern chic in a way that makes these almost passable as an IRL luxury line.

Price is not for the faint of heart, but it reflects Claire’s status as one of the most in-demand crypto native AI artists in recent years.

Reflexion by Pindar Van Arman

  • Mint date: February 5

  • Supply: 999

  • Price: TBD

Van Arman always begins with what he refers to as “my robots”.

In this case, his robots were first tasked with creating 9 acrylic canvas pieces, painted in layers, as they continuously asked themselves “how to make the paintings better”.

Then, 999 NFTs were made from those physical pieces.

According to him, these NFTs are so onchain that they’re made directly from solidity itself, without using javascript.

In other words, so onchain they’ll make your eyes bleed.

I’ll end with this quote from Van Arman’s blog, which gives us a clue about the intention behind reflexion:

One of the things I like to explore is Free Will, and just how much of it we have. I have heard and read convincing arguments that we have none. That everything we do is a deterministic biochemical reaction. And the reflection that my robots do when creating this is similar. Many of the algorithms are deterministic, but some are not, and that is where things are interesting.

NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.

GLHFers

Referencing the GLHF acronym, ubiquitous in online gaming, GLHFers is a throwback to simpler times – Pixel art PFPs on Ethereum with but a single expectation, to vibe.

The project was founded by Dith, head of BD for Proof of Play (makers of Pirate Nation, one of our top games at MoS HQ), alongside an unnamed team of “miscreants”.

Although it doesn’t have a roadmap, it’s clear that some thought has been put into it, given the innovative handling of whitelist spots. Perhaps a good omen?

REVOLOOTS by Kevin Abosch

Just over a week after launching MOD on Ethereum, AI artist Kevin Abosch will be releasing what looks like his genesis Ordinals collection with the 500-supply REVOLOOTS.

The drop showcases profile pictures of various TV-headed subjects as a way to visualize the role of media in disinformation.

We are Bulletproof: the Eternal

I’ll be honest, dear reader, I’ve never actively listened to a BTS song. This must come as a shock given my role as cultural herald, and for that I am sorry.

However, I do know that there are a ton of people who go absolutely insane for the band, providing an audience for this upcoming anotherblock drop.

The NFT lets you own a share of this song by the band, meaning you get paid every time the song plays on Spotify, Apple Music, etc. You only get paid 0.004% of the royalties per NFT, though, so think twice before mortgaging the house for one.

*US minters are geo-blocked for this one. Thanks, Gary.
