The rise of the NFT Superfan

Context

Music artist Angelbaby announced a drop on Sound called UNSEEN CLUB, which will use some pretty innovative tech.

Here’s what we know:

Going forward, anyone with a hoodie will get “beamed” different songs using IYK’s content distribution system.

They’ll also have a chance to earn ETH rewards as Angelbaby’s song gains popularity (this part is still a bit unclear).

There’s a Twitter space tomorrow with more info.

Our take

The year is 2033. You’re sitting on your designer couch with your friend Pietro while shopping for Taylor Swift tickets on a shared Apple Vision Pro XL screen in front of you.

Pietro goes to pick his seats but realizes that the public sale for tickets hasn’t started yet.

“AHH we’re too early I guess, maybe try again tomorrow?”

You hit him with one of these:

Then you pull out your crypto wallet which happens to have a limited soulbound T-Swift NFT that you received after attending three concerts in a row last year.

“We’re good, I’m a holder.”

Your wallet opens up the presale purchase window. You’re in.

But Pietro looks disappointed once again.

“Wow these are $61,000 each (inflation), that’s $5,000 more than last year.”

Just about had it with Pietro, but you play it cool and hit him with the smirk again. Then you lift up your hoodie, revealing a rare Swiftie T-shirt underneath with a barcode.

He scans it, which immediately sends a product-bound NFT to his wallet giving him a 25% discount on his tickets.

Pietro looks at you and now realizes he’s staring at…A SUPERFAN

We’re still in the stone age of fan loyalty programs

The fact that T-Swift has no idea who her biggest supporters are, and can’t reward them directly, will be looked back on as a thoroughly archaic setup.

It’s even worse at the micro-artist level since they don’t have a way to align incentives with fans and encourage them to promote their music.

IYK recently raised a $16.8 million seed round to change this by embedding chips into products and then helping creators reward superfans through onchain milestones.

It’s pretty simple

You buy things, receive NFTs tied to these things, and these NFTs (which are limited collectibles in their own right) level you up in that creator’s ecosystem. Creators can then choose to reward higher-level fans in many ways (airdrops, physical access, etc).

The result looks something like this

Bottom line

Angelbaby’s UNSEEN CLUB is pioneering a new model. It’s one of the first (maybe the first?) music/merch mashups using IYK’s new tech.

But these drops are very artist-specific. Don’t just go around buying hoodies with chips in them unless you like the music.

However, this could open the floodgates for other artists, so it’s a trend worth watching.

NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.

HERE Verse Exhibition

Verse keeps its foot on the gas as it gears up for one of its biggest exhibitions yet with HERE, featuring 13 artists and 8 partner galleries.

The sales will feature artists who most art maxis will be familiar with, including low-supply work from the acclaimed Roope Rainisto, John Gerrard and Joe Pease.

In terms of mintable higher-supply collections, Dutch artist Jan Robert Leegte is dropping a picturesque AI collection, and artist duo A.A. Murakami is releasing a series for neon aficionados.

I’m looking forward to more details on these.

Views by DeltaSauce

Prolific AI artist DeltaSauce takes viewers on a scenic tour with his 500-supply debut BrainDrops collection, Views.

Since starting his art journey in 2021, he’s released on most major art platforms (SuperRare and Foundation), and more recently sold out his Memories collection in August.

An aesthetic drop showcasing windows as portals to different worlds. Perfect for escapists.

Escherly Seeds by Martin Cohen

Martijn Cohen is set to release his first-ever NFT collection with the help of ArtBlocks: the 327-supply, onchain Escherly Seeds (details from the artist here).

Inspired by the work of fellow Dutchman, 20th-century math artist M.C. Escher, it showcases trees composed of vibrant 3D geometrical shapes that surrealistically sprout from a 2D sheet of paper.

Maybe you could put one of these up instead of a Christmas tree (I’m not liable for familial complaints).

Crypto Moments – Genesis Collection

Newly unveiled Crypto Moments is a platform that will tell the story of crypto history with art. It’s co-founded by SpiritDAO member Csaw and developed by Chimpers team member cap10bad, both pseudonymous.

The drops will chronicle historical crypto moments starting with the Bitcoin whitepaper and will feature digital artists you might already know from other platforms: BakaArts, ROLU, PIXELORD, phuncal, and Peekcell.

There are also gamification elements, like burning tokens for future rewards, but details remain limited.
