Perfect example of what’s possible on Bitcoin

Context

Popular artist Lucréce is launching BiTMONs, their first Ordinals collection. Here’s what we know:

  • Mint date: TBD

  • Supply: 150

  • Price: Free, but you’re required to burn one of his existing passes, and not every burn is guaranteed a mint (more info on raffles here).

Our take

Lucrece says he’s a “big believer that beauty is found in the nuance of execution”.

And there’s certainly beauty in what he’s building on Bitcoin right now.

The key element to understand here is recursion, an Ordinals feature that lets creators reference earlier inscriptions and re-use metadata for new collections.

For example, you can inscribe a group of traits on a single satoshi, and then use that as a Lego block for a larger PFP collection later on (as we saw with OCM).

This significantly reduces the cost of inscribing larger collections on Bitcoin, and it also makes for cool worldbuilding since you’re effectively building a complex family tree onchain, like this one that Lucrece is creating right now:

It all begins with Lucrece’s first inscription from late last year (“parent”), which created the foundational layer for everything set to come.

This was then used to make two separate branches of inscriptions.

In branch #1, which you can see in the graphic above, you have Benediction from Between Worlds, a 1/1 that later sold at Sotheybs for $95k.

This was then used to build out a small collection called Between Worlds, which will go to everyone who bid on the Sotheby’s auction.

In branch #2, we begin with the logo inscription for BiTMONs. That logo was then used to make the Genesis BiTMON inscription (the orange one below), which also sold at Sotheby’s last week for ~$52k.

And now that Genesis inscription will be used to create a larger collection of 150 BiTMON 1/1s (today’s main story).

The BiTMON art consists of animated low-pixel variations of Lucréce’s recognizable horned character that shows up in most (all?) of their works. I like them, they’re pretty simplistic and remind me of the kind of late ‘90s collectibles that blew up for a brief period of time (crazy bones??).

But, for me, the real draw here is that Lucréce is slowly building one of the most creative and methodical ecosystems on Bitcoin right now.

The thoughtful lineage gives everything weight and makes each new collection a bit more “lore-able” because of the context around it.

It makes me dream of worlds built over decades, with new collections making onchain call-backs to much earlier (and rarer) objects that other people own. More artists should pay attention to this.

Top 25

NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.

Audio Galleries Series 2 Collector Pass

The art platform Audio Galleries, a Rug Radio production, is back with its second art pass, following the success of the first one last year.

Holders will have priority access to drops from notable artists like Dirty Robot and ALIENQUEEN, both already confirmed, as well as generative art pieces thanks to a partnership with Art Blocks.

One for Twitter Spaces listeners.

Uchu Space Colony

Uchu is the genesis PFP collection from Unblocked, a platform founded in 2021 (and previously funded by big players) specializing in blockchain-based loyalty programs.

These wagmi-flavored cartoon voyagers mark the company’s transition to Solana and sit at the center of its evolving ecosystem, offering quests and other gamified mechanisms involving an upcoming $LOYAL token and access to a corporate accelerator.

One for those still hung up on Hardwell’s 2012 global hit song Spaceman, which is old enough to do algebra this year (wallahi, I’m cooked).

The Palms by Kei

Now, I’m no Picasso, but from what I understand, learning to draw hands is one of the more difficult challenges in an artist’s journey, making this upcoming collection by pseudonymous artist Kei a bit of a flex.

It’s an affordable digital art collection that tells 333 different stories featuring human hands as the only characters. The spacey, ethereal, 3D style is similar to that of his earlier work on platforms like Foundation and SuperRare.

One for handshakers and fistbumpers alike (elbow bumpers not welcome).
