Yuga Labs announces a new PFP

Context

Long-running narrative-focused project 10KTF (co-founded by Beeple and now owned by Yuga Labs) announced an upcoming PFP collection.

The mint will be accessible by holding the project’s G-Tags, an item that also received burn functionality in prior phases of the project.

Our Take

Yuga Labs. Beeple. PFP.

We’re already off to a strong start.

If you’re not familiar with 10KTF, we suggest you take a look at the community-made guide at 10ktf.wtf, which explains the various parts and mechanics of the project so far.

Warning: it’s a lot. But if you like deep, slow and steady narrative building in public through the use of characters on Twitter (e.g Wagmi-san), then this should be up your alley.

10ktf’s slow approach might also give them a tactical benefit. If you think about it, they’ve been around since 2021 - which means they’ve had a first-hand look at the market’s ups and downs over the last couple of years.

Hopefully, this means they’ve learned from the mistakes and successes of others, and can add their own innovative spin on top of that.

What could we expect going into this PFP mint, then? Well, a simple 1:1 burn-to-claim wouldn’t make sense this far into the game, given 10KTF’s focus on community experiences and game mechanics.

So expect more cryptic tweets from Wagmi-san and probably some adjacent utility for the rest of the pieces in the ecosystem. Again if you like lore building, you’re probably in the right place.

Lastly, we just found out 10KTF stands for “10k True Frens”. Not sure why that’s relevant, but we found it funny.

A legendary team returns

Context

Code.lawless is the first solo project by ponderware since they launched the iconic 2017 project MoonCats.

The mint is scheduled to occur in two phases:

  1. A 72-hour open edition priced at 0.008192 ETH

  2. A second character mint in early May

More details to come.

Our Take

O Dear Reader, I confess that I don’t know a whole lot about you yet (but hey, we just started being friends).

So if someone were to ask me, for whatever reason, what you were up to in 2017 – I’m not sure I’d have all the answers.

I mean, I could make some guesses. Maybe at one point you went to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2 with your buddies? Maybe Despacito was playing on the radio on the way there? And then you look down at your phone and see everyone talking about the latest Trump tweet?

It starts to get blurry after that.

But I can also take a guess at something that you probably weren’t doing: and that’s buying NFTs. Or even less likely: making NFTs.

It’s not a knock on you, very few people were involved back then. And many of the creators who were releasing NFTs, like Larva Labs or the Rare Pepe scientists, are now often considered legends in the space because of their early pioneering work.

There’s a strong argument that ponderware also belongs in that category.

Mooncats – which launched in August 2017 – is a definite piece of NFT history. It’s considered the first on-chain generative NFT, the first cat NFT (incredible landmark in internet terms), and predated the ERC-721 token standard itself.

Mooncats was a free mint led by ponderware’s two co-founders, David and Jason, and is now considered a trailblazer for its technical approach, which featured over four billion possible trait variations, and a naming system that was later adopted by popular 2021 collections like CyberKongz.

The team has since grown to 6 people, all working on code.lawless. So far we know that they’ll be integrating dynamic art with interactive p2p mechanics, and that these features will react to collector decisions.

Sounds pretty cool to us, and definitely in the same experimental ethos as Mooncats years ago. Hopefully, we learn more soon – until then we’re adding it to our watchlist.

NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.

ZIELCHAIN

Art project from Japanese production company NTV Wands and legendary Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano, most famously known for working on the early Final Fantasy games’ art.

This would be the artist’s first Ethereum-based project, although he did have a past release on Polkadot’s Astar network late last year.

We don’t know much yet except that the website emphasizes community participation and that they’ve announced a collaboration with on-chain, cult classic Mathcastles.

ZTX Genesis Home Mint

ZTX is a metaverse built on an immersive 3D open world. Currently led by @charleskoh, the project is a collaboration between Zepeto (Asia’s largest metaverse) and Jump (notable crypto investment group)

Their genesis mint for 4,000 District Homes will happen on Magic Eden’s recently launched ETH launchpad at a price of 0.07 ETH. Mint date is TBD.

For more information, check out the litepaper on their website.

KILLACUBS

A KILLABEARS companion drop which will feature trait customization, a trait marketplace, and an evolution mechanism through “incubation” (staking?).

KILLACUBS will be the ecosystem’s second companion drop. Holders of the original KILLABEARS collection were airdropped KILLABITS in July 2022.

Long-time Killa Chronicles holders will get an allowlist allocation for this 8,888 supply, 0.25 ETH collection.
