Mystery drop on BASE tomorrow

You may remember a few weeks ago when Google sent out this email alerting users that they were planning to shut down Gmail later in the year:

It was a big story, picked up by major news outlets, and generally caused a lot of ruckus as you would imagine.

But then…it turned out it was all a fugazi. Gmail isn’t going anywhere (for now).

The email was actually a fake conjured up by shl0ms – an anonymous artist specializing in viral meta-commentaries and online pranks.

Perhaps you’ve seen this face before:

Or maybe you’ve heard of his other works, like that one time he blew up a lambo, or more recently when he tricked people into thinking he crashed a cybertruck

This is a guy (or girl) (or spiritual being) who knows how to press people’s buttons as a form of storytelling.

Shl0ms is also a cryptonative. He ended up minting the fake google email as a 1/1, and it was ultimately bought by Path for 9.60 ETH .

And tomorrow we’re getting another shl0ms drop…on Base. It’s as mysterious as ever.

Here’s what we know:

  1. It’s called MOON : BEAM

  2. It’s a collab with artist John Karborn and studio Transient Labs

  3. The website (password: cicada) is a moodboard of deepcut references and abstract hieroglyphics (for those who love esoterica)

  4. It’s launching exactly 48 hrs after eclipse totality (because, you know, a 4.8 earthquake in NYC, 4/8 eclipse date, 48 hrs…2spooky)

  5. There was a livestream yesterday, which I missed, but clips show a jazzy eclipse viewing experience

My interpretation is that they went to some remote location, pointed an antenna at the moon, sent out some Morse code, received something back, and will mint this as a collection of some kind.

~ or maybe that’s what they want me to think ~

NOTE: These drops are lightly curated. Our only requirement is that they have recognizable founders. As usual, DYOR. To learn more go here.

KIBODO KITTY CLUB by dailofrog

If you thought Ordinals couldn’t bring 2021 NFT vibes any harder than they already are, here’s a drop for 690 animated pixel cat sprites.

That said, KIBODO KITTY CLUB doesn’t claim to be anything more than it is – a fully onchain celebration of the halving and OP_CAT’s activation.

It’s also a bet on pseudonymous onchain tinkerer dailofrog, a rising creator who released Base’s first fully onchain collection last July and sold out his first ordinals earlier this year.

For chonker lovers.

Captain & Company: Skellies

After selling out their Lootbox collection last year, web3 pirate game Captain & Company (by KAP Games studio) is back with a PFP, The Skellies.

These cartoon skeletons launch on the Blast L2 and feature airdrop/reward benefits, plus a built-in deflationary mechanism whereby you can get your hands on an Epic Skelly if you burn enough normal ones.

You can see if it’s something you’d be interested in by giving the game a try (playable on browser since February). Or check out the gameplay clips on social media.
