Two new drops added to the Mint List

GM

Pull over, it's the FOMO police.

We know you've been watching all the euphoria around Bitcoin NFTs. Maybe you saw some people making bank trading inscriptions through google sheets

And now you're thinking of switching your LinkedIn bio to "Bitcoin maxi" huh?

We won't judge, and we certainly won't go on record calling the "top" on all this — too unpredictable.

Actually never mind, the top is in the minute influencers start dance-teaching people how to run a full bitcoin node on tik tok.

This week's update:

  • Momoguro finally opens their doors

  • Buying Bitcoin NFTs on Ethereum?

  • All the latest rankings

MOMOGURO FINALLY OPENS THEIR DOORS

Context:

Momoguro is a new IP drop coming from Baobab Studios, an award winning entertainment studio that previously made waves with storytelling VR games.

Their genesis collection, called Holoself Avatars, is set to launch in Q1 and works as an access pass for upcoming drops within the Momoguro ecosystem.

The team recently opened their discord and are slowly giving out more info on the vision and roadmap.

Our Take:

We believe interactive media is the future. Imagine Netflix shows that aren’t limited to a single app but instead take place across several mediums at once.

Just a sample of some wild things we're expecting:

  1. AI NPC twitter accounts replying to each other and showing character development.

  2. Fans holding NFTs that change or get destroyed with every plotline twist and turn.

  3. Far more interoperability between franchises.

(Kind of like this actual shot from Fortnite which we think is a sign of where we're heading)

The team behind Momoguro also believes this world is coming fast. And they’ve been bringing people together from a variety of disciplines to give them a head start.

Baobab founders come from Zynga and Dreamworks, their advisors include Pixar and Twitch co-founders, and they even have Disney on board as a core partner.

So on a vision basis, we’re aligned. And we believe they have as good a team as we’ve seen in this space.

Plus their art teasers look polished and give us Adventure Time vibes. You’ll always get extra credit from us for Adventure Time vibes.

But some details still feel hazy. We actually spoke to the team several days ago, and we’re still not fully sure we understand what the plan is outside of a web3 browser game that’s coming later this year.

Some of this comes down to not wanting to give too much away, we get it, but we hope they share more practical details as we get closer to the mint.

For now it’s worth jumping into the new discord and keeping a close eye on announcements or allowlist opportunities.

BITCOIN NFTS ON...ETHEREUM?

If you haven’t seen, Bitcoin NFTs became a thing after some recent innovations made it possible to:

A. Add data, such as an image, to individual satoshis (native Bitcoin currency)

B. Track satoshis so that you know what you’re buying or selling

This is a big deal. Once bitcoiners get a taste for jpegs there’s no going back.

But now things are getting weird. Collectors want Bitcoin NFTs, but they don’t want to go through the trouble of getting them, which involves running a full bitcoin node among other things.

And the customer is always right. So instead of asking eth collectors to jump through hoops, creators are instead bringing Bitcoin NFTs directly to them…on Ethereum.

We’re now seeing new ordinals selling on eth through auctions and open editions, existing ones getting wrapped and bridged over, and everything in between.

As an NFT newsletter that is eth only (for now) this is slightly annoying - do we ignore them, do we cover them?

Well, it depends.

Are these technically eth mints? I guess, maybe?

Do we think this is going to go away? No.

Do we think there’s a need for curation for “ordinals dropping on eth”? Yes.

Alright alright, we’ll take a look. Don’t be surprised if we end up covering some of these soon, but only because we like you.
